GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and the Somalia NGO Consortium have agreed on a new framework to improve coordination of humanitarian assistance, as the country grapples with recurring droughts, floods, and displacement.

The agreement, announced after talks in Mogadishu, is aimed at creating a unified approach to aid delivery to ensure support reaches vulnerable communities more effectively.

SoDMA Commissioner Mohamud Moalim Abdulle said the initiative would advance the National Disaster Management Policy and reduce challenges linked to fragmented relief efforts. “Coordinated action is vital to minimize gaps and duplication in aid delivery,” he said.

Under the plan, a centralized platform will be established to track humanitarian operations and map NGO activities across Somalia. Officials said this would help avoid overlaps while identifying areas most in need. Regular meetings between SoDMA and aid groups will also be held to sustain cooperation.

The move is being seen as a step toward a more organized and resilient humanitarian response system in Somalia, where millions remain in need of food, water, and shelter due to climate shocks and conflict.
