GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Somalia is highlighting the innovation and resilience of its small businesses at the 25th East African Community Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Trade Fair, which opened in Nairobi.

Senior Somali officials, including Agriculture Minister Mohamed A. Hayir Maareeye and Somali Ambassador to Kenya Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, attended the launch of the regional exhibition, which brings together entrepreneurs from across East Africa.

Somalian exhibitors are displaying a range of products, from organic beauty items and specialty foods to handcrafted goods that draw on local raw materials and traditional skills. Many of the showcased businesses are led by young entrepreneurs who combine Somali cultural heritage with modern design and global market awareness.

Officials said Somalia’s participation signals the growing strength of its private sector despite years of conflict and economic strain.

“This is a moment to demonstrate the creativity and determination of Somali producers,” Minister Maareeye said. “Our entrepreneurs are not only contributing to national development but are also positioning Somalia as an active player in the regional marketplace.”

The fair, which rotates annually among EAC member states and partners, aims to support cross-border trade, expand market access and promote collaboration among small and medium-sized enterprises in East Africa.

Somali delegates say they hope increased regional engagement will strengthen trade networks, attract investment and create new opportunities for youth and women-led enterprises.
