Somalia Signs Global Postal Agreements to Boost Trade and Digital Growth

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has signed all agreements and amendments adopted at the 28th Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress in Dubai, in a move the government says will modernize postal services, strengthen trade, and support economic recovery.
Communications and Technology Minister Mohamed Aden Moallim, signed the accords, which commit Somalia to align its postal and courier services with international standards and play a more active role in the global postal community.
Officials said the agreements will also accelerate national plans for digital transformation and expand e-commerce, helping improve connectivity for citizens and businesses.
The government hailed the step as both a diplomatic and technical milestone, underscoring Somalia’s leadership in global postal reforms after decades of conflict weakened the country’s infrastructure.
Somalia, rebuilding key institutions after years of instability, has sought greater integration into international organizations to attract investment and foster economic growth across the Horn of Africa.
