Somalia, South Korea Discuss Expanding Security Cooperation

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Minister of Internal Security, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), on Tuesday held talks with South Korea’s Ambassador to Somalia, Kang Hyung-shik, on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key security sectors.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Internal Security headquarters in Mogadishu, was attended by Deputy Minister General Sulub Ahmed Firin and the Ministry’s Director General, Mohamed Shire.

According to the ministry, discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in maritime security, strengthening Somalia’s security institutions, combating piracy, and improving the capabilities of the Somali Police Force, the Coast Guard, and the Somali Navy.

The two sides also explored opportunities for joint training, technical assistance, and the exchange of expertise aimed at building the capacity of Somalia’s security forces.

Minister Fartaag thanked the Government of South Korea for its continued support to Somalia and underscored the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation to advance security, peace, and stability in the country.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Somalia to expand international partnerships as it works to strengthen its security institutions and improve maritime security along its coastline.
