Minister Maalim Outlines Vision for Somalia’s Digital Future

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Communications and Technology minister Mohamed Adan Maalim, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to driving the country’s digital transformation, saying Somalia is entering a decisive phase in expanding access to reliable communication and technology services.

Speaking during a high-level meeting with senior executives from leading telecommunications companies in Mogadishu on Sunday, Minister Maalim emphasized the government’s plan to build a modern framework that supports digital governance, improves service delivery, and strengthens connectivity nationwide.

He said the ministry is prioritizing collaboration with the private sector to accelerate technological innovation and enhance the quality of communication services available to citizens.

“The government is determined to ensure that every Somali benefits from fast, secure, and affordable communication services,” Maalim said, highlighting the sector’s role in driving economic growth, education, and social inclusion.

The meeting, attended by the Director-General of the Ministry and representatives of major telecom firms, reviewed Somalia’s progress in digital infrastructure development and addressed challenges affecting service quality and regulation.

Participants agreed to continue joint efforts to strengthen the sector’s foundations, a move seen as key to supporting Somalia’s digital economy and improving the country’s global connectivity.
