Somalia Steps up Youth Protection in UN Talks on Extremism

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Youth and Sports Ministry has said it is stepping up efforts to protect young people from radicalisation, following talks with the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (UNCTED).
Minister Mohamed Abdulqadir Ali told UNCTED Executive Director Natalia Gherman that extremism is eroding opportunities for Somali youth and threatening national stability. He said the government is prioritising youth protection as part of its wider counter-terrorism strategy.
Officials said stronger international cooperation could help deliver programmes that steer young people away from extremist ideologies, adding that prevention is as critical as security operations in building Somalia’s future.
