Somalia Strengthens Education Ties with Uganda, Qatar, and Algeria

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Cabinet has approved three new memoranda of understanding aimed at deepening cooperation in education, higher learning, and research with Uganda, Qatar, and Algeria.

The agreements, presented by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education, seek to enhance academic exchange, strengthen institutional partnerships, and build research capacity within Somalia’s education sector. The move reflects the government’s commitment to investing in knowledge and skills as pillars of national development.

The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Second Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, also reviewed the country’s overall security situation. The Ministries of Internal Security and Defence briefed members on the progress of ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab, noting continued efforts to consolidate stability and protect newly recovered areas.

According to the government, the new education partnerships are expected to create wider opportunities for Somali students, promote faculty and research collaboration, and accelerate the modernization of the country’s higher education system.
