Somalia Strengthens Regional Military Ties at African Land Forces Summit in Kigali

GOOBJOOG NEWS | KIGALI: Somalia is set to deepen defense cooperation with regional partners following the conclusion of the African Land Forces Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, where Somali Land Forces Commander Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar led the country’s delegation.
The summit brought together senior military leaders from across the continent to enhance collaboration and exchange expertise on regional security challenges. Discussions focused on strengthening coordination among African land forces and addressing emerging threats, including the misuse of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
General Sahal said Somalia’s participation reinforced the country’s commitment to regional stability and security partnerships that support ongoing defense reforms at home.
The forum also agreed to institutionalize regular meetings to sustain cooperation and knowledge-sharing between African armies. Officials said the move will help countries like Somalia access shared training, intelligence, and technological expertise to better counter modern security threats.
Somalia’s delegation used the summit to strengthen military ties with key allies and reaffirm its readiness to work collectively in advancing continental peace and stability.
