GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Talks between Somalia’s foreign minister and Sudan’s ambassador highlighted growing diplomatic support for Somalia’s unity and a shared interest in regional stability, officials said.

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali met Sudan’s Ambassador to Somalia, Abdulrahman Khalil Ahmed Abubakar, to discuss strengthening Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, alongside expanding bilateral cooperation.

Sudan reaffirmed its support for Somalia, with the ambassador welcoming recent political developments, including the conduct of one-person, one-vote local elections, which Somali officials say mark a significant step toward democratic consolidation.

The discussions also focused on the strategic importance of the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Indian Ocean, areas seen as critical to regional security and global trade.

The officials also said the talks underscored Somalia’s growing diplomatic profile, including its role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Abdisalam said Sudan’s engagement, including the ambassador’s recent visit to Lasanod, contributed to reinforcing Somalia’s national unity and strengthening regional cooperation at a time of heightened security challenges in the Horn of Africa.
