Somalia to close airspace during inauguration of President Farmaajo next week
Somalia has announced that all flights arriving and departing from Mogadishu’s Airport with the exception of of specific flights will be suspended on 22nd of January during President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s inauguration.
In a statement Wednesday, the country’s Civil Aviation Ministry said that flights to Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu will be suspended on 22nd but the flights are expected to resume normally in the following day.
Only flights carrying delegations among them heads of states and governments will be allowed to fly in, the statement reads. It is not clear though which heads of states or governments will be attending the function but regional leaders maybe expected to attend.
President Farmaajo was sworn in the same day he was elected but a formal inauguration ceremony will be conducted on the 22nd. A similar closure of the country’s airspace was effected on election day.
