GOOBJOOG NEWS | BALI, Indonesia: Somalia is taking part in the 30th annual meeting of the Coastal States Alliance (CSA) of the Indian Ocean, as regional countries seek to strengthen cooperation on fisheries management and marine conservation.

The Somali delegation is led by Abdi Dirshe, Director General at the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy. The meeting, being held in Bali, brings together officials from Indian Ocean coastal states to coordinate positions and take decisions linked to the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC).

Participants are also exchanging experiences on the management, conservation and sustainable development of marine resources, a key issue for countries that depend heavily on fisheries for food security and livelihoods.

Somalia, which has Africa’s longest coastline, has been working to expand its blue economy and improve governance of its marine resources, with support from regional and international partners.
