GOOBJOOG NEWS | TRIPOLI: Information, Culture and Tourism minister Daud Aweis Jama, told regional media leaders in Tripoli on Thursday that Libya’s media recovery offers a practical blueprint for Somalia as it works to strengthen national institutions and rebuild public trust.

Speaking at the Tripoli Media Days awards alongside Arab League information ministers, Aweis praised Libya’s journalists and media outlets for helping stabilize public discourse during a difficult transition.

He said Somalia welcomed Libya’s improving security conditions and viewed the country’s progress as evidence that post-conflict media sectors can be revived with the right support.

“Somalia shares in the joy of Libya’s progress,” Aweis said, noting that the resilience of the Libyan press had played a central role in the country’s political recovery.

Aweis said Somalia aims to deepen cooperation with Libya to boost media training, expand cultural exchange and strengthen institutional development in the sector.

He said the reforms shaping Libya’s media landscape, particularly efforts to counter misinformation and professionalize news reporting, could help Somalia address similar challenges at home.

He pointed to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s February visit to Tripoli as a key moment that reopened political and media cooperation between the two countries.

This week’s forum, he added, reinforces Somalia’s role in Arab League media initiatives and opens more opportunities for technical assistance from Libya and other member states as Somalia works to modernize its communication institutions.
