GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s National Communications Authority (NCA) on Wednesday held a meeting with telecom operators and internet providers to discuss compliance with the country’s new submarine cable regulations.

The talks covered reporting requirements, licensing of new cable projects, and obligations for fair access at landing stations, as well as environmental and social safeguards for future deployments.

Director General Mustafa Yasin Sheikh said the rules, endorsed by the cabinet in June, set out a modern framework to attract investment and strengthen Somalia’s position as a regional connectivity hub.

“Somalia now has a clear, modern legal framework, and we look to every licensee to meet their obligations in full,” Sheikh said.

The regulations aim to ensure transparent access to international bandwidth and support the country’s growing digital economy.
