Somalia to elect new President on May 15- Presidential Election Committee
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia is edging closer to electing a new President in 10 days time after the Presidential Election Committee declared in a meeting in Mogadishu today that May 15th will be the country’s presidential election date.
If the new schedule goes according to plan, Somalia will have a new president within 10 days, after nearly a two-year delay in the presidential election. The current president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has been in office since the February 2017 election and his term expired on 8 February 2021.
The top seat has seen more than 20 candidates jostling to be crowned the country’s number one, with President Farmajo yet to officially announce his candidacy for the presidency, although many have it that he will be among those taking part in the race for Villa Somalia come May 15.
