GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, on Friday evening announced a government decision granting a reprieve to students who missed the Grade 12 national examinations during the 2015/2016 academic year.

The decision affects nearly 28,000 students from that cohort who were unable to sit for the exams due to a range of circumstances that disrupted their education at the time. Despite not taking the examinations, the students will now receive school completion certificates.

The cabinet approved a recommendation from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education to issue the certificates based on official student records held by the ministry.

The Ministry of Education said all required student data is complete, allowing the decision to be implemented in a structured and credible manner.

The move is intended to support education and ensure affected students are not permanently disadvantaged, giving them a fair chance to move forward academically and professionally.

Prime Minister Barre urged students and parents to take advantage of the opportunity and encouraged them to continue pursuing education to build better futures.
