GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has said it will put in place more measures to address challenges facing refugees in Somalia, in partnership with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

This was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and UNHCR head in Somalia Charles Mballa in Mogadishu Wednesday where they deliberated upon pressing issues facing refugees and internally displaced persons in the country.

The Prime Minister and Mr. Mballa engaged in in-depth discussions on how the current humanitarian aid efforts can be restructured into long-term development projects with the aim of providing a sustainable solution to the challenges that lead to displacement, rather than just addressing the immediate needs of those affected.

PM Hamza said that effects of climate and seasonal changes pose additional risks to vulnerable populations, making preparedness a key focus of their collaborative efforts.

On his part, Charles Mballa assured the Prime Minister of UNHCR’s commitment to work closely with various Somali government agencies.

This partnership is expected to ensure that the priority issues identified are addressed effectively, paving the way for a more stable and resilient Somalia.
