Somalia, Turkey Agree Structured Media Partnership to Counter Disinformation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | ANKARA: Somalia and Turkey have agreed to establish a structured media cooperation framework aimed at strengthening public communication, countering disinformation and expanding professional capacity between the two governments.
The agreement followed high-level talks in Ankara between Somalia’s Information Minister Daud Aweys Jama, Ports and Marine Transport Minister Abdulqaadir Mahamed Nuur and Turkey’s Minister of Media and Public Relations Burhanettin Duran.
Officials said the outcome includes sustained collaboration on modern media training, institutional capacity building and coordinated communication strategies to address misinformation.
The two sides also agreed to enhance information-sharing mechanisms to ensure more consistent and accurate reporting on joint projects.
The move is expected to deepen transparency around Somalia–Turkey initiatives in infrastructure, security, trade and development, areas where Ankara has played a significant role in Somalia’s reconstruction over the past decade.
By formalising media cooperation, both governments aim to strengthen public trust, improve narrative coordination and amplify the visibility of bilateral achievements across African and international platforms.
The talks were held on the margins of a forum focused on Turkey’s engagement with African nations, underscoring the growing role of media diplomacy as a strategic pillar in the Somalia–Turkey partnership.
