GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Talks between Somalia and Turkey on defence cooperation are expected to boost Somalia’s security capacity and support ongoing efforts to build professional and self-reliant national forces.

The discussions, held at the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu between Turkish Ambassador Alper Aktaş and Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, focused on expanding security and defence collaboration, a partnership seen as critical to Somalia’s stability.

Officials said deeper cooperation with Turkey would enhance military training, capacity-building and institutional development, helping Somalia improve operational readiness and sustain recent security gains against militant threats.

Fiqi described Turkey as a key ally whose multifaceted support has played an important role in strengthening Somalia’s defence institutions, while officials said the meeting reaffirmed Ankara’s long-term commitment to Somalia’s security transition.

The outcome of the talks is expected to contribute to improved security, stronger state institutions and greater confidence in Somalia’s ability to manage its own defence in the years ahead.
