Somalia, Turkey Discuss Port Upgrades and Maritime Cooperation in Ankara
GOOBJOOG NEWS | ANKARA: Somalia and Turkey on Thursday held high-level talks aimed at expanding cooperation in the maritime sector, with a focus on modernising Somali ports and strengthening strategic marine services.
Somali Minister of Ports and Marine Transport Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur met his Turkish counterpart, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, in Ankara for discussions centred on port development, maritime security and technology transfer.
Officials said the goal of the talks was to align Somalia’s maritime services with global commercial standards and boost the country’s role in regional trade routes.
Nur thanked the Turkish government for its continued support, saying the partnership plays a vital role in reinforcing Somalia’s stability, economic growth and blue economy ambitions.
He noted that improved port infrastructure and closer cooperation with Turkey would help Somalia enhance its maritime operations and strengthen links to regional markets.
