GOOBJOOG NEWS | ANKARA: Somalia and Turkey have formally begun implementing a bilateral labour cooperation agreement first signed in 2016, marking a renewed push to deepen collaboration in employment and social development.

The agreement brings together Somalia’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and Turkey’s Ministry of Labour and Social Security. A launch ceremony in Ankara was co-chaired by Turkey’s Minister of Labour and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan and Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Salim Aliyoow Ibro, officials said.

Somalia’s ambassador to Turkey and senior officials from both governments attended the event.

Officials from the two countries later held a technical meeting to outline 15 priority actions to be carried out between 2026 and 2027. The measures focus on expanding cooperation in job creation, skills development and vocational training, occupational safety and health, and the strengthening of social services.

Both governments agreed to fast-track the agreement’s implementation, aiming to reinforce Somalia’s labour institutions and sustain long-term cooperation with Turkey, the ministers said.
