Somalia, Turkey Lawmakers Discuss Stronger Parliamentary Cooperation at IPU Summit

GOOBJOOG NEWS | ARUSHA: Somalia’s parliamentary speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jamaa met with a delegation from Turkey’s Grand National Assembly on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), as the two sides discussed strengthening parliamentary and strategic ties between the two countries.

The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between the two legislatures, including the exchange of parliamentary expertise, institutional knowledge and experience.

Jamaa and the Turkish delegation also highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in bringing the positions of Somalia and Turkey closer on issues of mutual interest and shared priorities at international forums.

The talks come as Somalia and Turkey maintain broad bilateral relations spanning security, development, humanitarian assistance, infrastructure and economic cooperation.

Parliamentary engagement has increasingly formed part of the wider relationship, providing an avenue for lawmakers from both countries to exchange institutional experience and coordinate positions on issues of common concern.

The 153rd IPU Assembly is bringing together parliamentarians from around the world in Arusha to discuss issues affecting international peace, development and parliamentary cooperation.
