GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Turkey have agreed to advance new infrastructure initiatives at Mogadishu Port, a move aimed at strengthening trade, boost government revenues and improve the efficiency of the country’s main maritime gateway.

The agreement followed a visit by a high-level Turkish delegation led by Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Durmuş Ünüvar, who held talks with senior Somali transport and port officials on expanding cooperation in port management and infrastructure development.

Officials said the discussions resulted in commitments to enhance operational efficiency, support capacity expansion and deepen technical cooperation, building on existing management arrangements at the port.

The visit also reaffirmed Turkey’s continued support for the development of Mogadishu Port, which plays a central role in Somalia’s import supply chain and broader economic recovery efforts.

Authorities said the outcomes of the visit would contribute to improved service delivery, increased cargo handling capacity and stronger institutional collaboration, helping Somalia strengthen its maritime sector and regional trade links.
