Somalia, Turkey Strengthen Ties with New Telecom Cooperation Agreement
GOOBJOOG NEWS | ANKARA: Somalia’s National Communications Authority (NCA) and Turkey’s Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in electronic communications.
The agreement, signed at BTK headquarters in Ankara by NCA Director General Mustafa Yasin Sheikh and BTK Chairman Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, covers areas including satellite communications regulation, cybersecurity, spectrum management, broadband infrastructure, internet governance, and the security of telecommunications networks.
Karagözoğlu said the partnership aims to “promote the exchange of knowledge, regulatory experience, and best practices, supporting resilient, forward-looking communications sectors in both Turkey and Somalia.”
Sheikh emphasized that the MoU will strengthen institutional collaboration, support capacity building, and improve Somalia’s regulatory frameworks, contributing to the modernization of the country’s communications sector.
Following the signing, Somali officials engaged in technical discussions and experience-sharing sessions with BTK and other Turkish institutions, focusing on cybersecurity, consumer protection, internet governance, and regulatory practices.
