GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and the United States have agreed to establish joint technical committees to fast-track cooperation in trade, energy and critical minerals following high-level talks in Mogadishu.

The outcome of the discussions formalizes a structured follow-up mechanism aimed at translating policy dialogue into concrete projects and investment flows. Officials said the committees will focus on regulatory alignment, investor protections and priority opportunities in oil, gas and mineral development.

The U.S. delegation was led by Chargé d’Affaires Justin Dives, while Somalia was represented by senior officials including Petroleum and Minerals Minister Daahir Shire Mohamed and Commerce and Industry Minister Jamaal Mohamed Hassan.

Somali authorities presented ongoing economic reforms designed to strengthen transparency and clarify commercial regulations, measures they said are essential to attracting sustainable foreign direct investment.

U.S. officials reaffirmed support for Somalia’s economic development agenda and signaled readiness to deepen commercial engagement under clear legal frameworks and accountable governance standards.

Both sides expressed confidence that the new mechanism will accelerate implementation of agreed priorities, expand bilateral trade and help unlock Somalia’s energy potential, with the aim of generating growth and employment opportunities.
