Somalia, U.S. Conduct Airstrikes on ISIS in Puntland’s Golis Mountains

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BOSASO: In a coordinated counter-terrorism operation, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in partnership with the Federal Government of Somalia, conducted airstrikes targeting ISIS militants in the Golis Mountains of the Bari region, Puntland State, officials said on Thursday.
The strikes, launched late Wednesday, hit known ISIS hideouts as part of a joint counter-terrorism campaign aimed at dismantling militant networks operating in Somalia. Initial assessments indicate multiple ISIS fighters were killed, with no reported civilian casualties.
The operation aligns with Puntland’s ongoing security offensive led by its Darawish forces in the Al-Miskeed mountain range, a known militant stronghold. Officials said further assessments were underway to determine the full impact of the strikes.
The Federal Government of Somalia, backed by international allies including AFRICOM, has ramped up military efforts against ISIS and Al-Shabaab, both of which are designated terrorist organizations. The government has reiterated its commitment to eradicating extremist groups that threaten national security and stability.
Authorities have called for continued vigilance and cooperation from local communities to prevent militants from regrouping.
