Somalia, Uganda Set to Expand Trade and Investment at Mogadishu Forum
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Uganda are preparing to expand trade, investment and economic cooperation at a joint commission meeting and business forum scheduled to take place in Mogadishu later this month.
The second session of the Somalia-Uganda Joint Permanent Commission and the accompanying Joint Business Forum will be held from Oct. 20 to 23, bringing together government officials and business representatives from the two countries.
Preparations are being coordinated by Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with government institutions discussing their respective roles, coordination arrangements and agreements expected to be signed during the meetings.
Permanent Secretary Hamza Adan Haadoow chaired a preparatory meeting with officials from the Office of the President and other government institutions ahead of the gathering.
The commission is expected to provide a platform for the two governments to discuss ways of increasing bilateral trade, encouraging investment and expanding economic links between Somalia and Uganda.
The business forum will also bring the private sector into the discussions, creating an opportunity for businesses from both countries to explore potential commercial partnerships and investment opportunities.
Somalia is seeking to broaden economic partnerships in the region and strengthen trade and investment ties with neighbouring and other East African countries.
