Somalia, UK Step Up Border Security Cooperation After Joint Assessment Visit

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and the United Kingdom have agreed to deepen cooperation on border management and immigration security following a two-day joint assessment mission in Mogadishu.
The visit, held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, followed earlier talks in London in July and focused on strengthening border controls, reviewing operational procedures at Aden Adde International Airport, and improving inter-agency coordination.
Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) Director General Mustafa Duhulow said the partnership was vital for enhancing Somalia’s capacity to protect its borders, prevent illegal migration and combat organized crime. “International partnerships are essential to building stronger systems,” he said.
The UK delegation reaffirmed its commitment to support Somalia through training, modernization of immigration systems and closer security collaboration. Both sides agreed on next steps to advance joint goals, with UK Ambassador Charles King joining ICA officials at a closing event to mark the conclusion of the visit.
