Somalia, UN Begin Transition Talks From Political Mission to UN Country Team
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has initiated talks with the Unitedthe United Nations to transition from a special political mission to a United Nations Country Team (UNCT) structure.
The Move is aimed at fostering greater collaboration and enhancing national sovereignty, marks a new phase in Somalia’s journey towards stability and progress.
This was discussed during a high level meeting in Mogadishu Sunday which brought together technical teams from both the FGS and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).
The transition process is expected to consolidate Somalia’s governance structures and reinforce its capacity to address critical developmental challenges.
The initiative underscores the federal government’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships for building institutional capacity and promoting socio-economic development in Somalia.
Initiatives such as training and mentorship programs aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Somali security forces underscore the practical outcomes of this partnership, particularly in crucial areas like command and control, combat operations, intelligence, and logistics.
