Somalia, UN Convenes Joint Steering Committee Annual Meeting
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations Tuesday convened the annual Joint Steering Committee (JSC) meeting for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Somalia (2021-2025).
According to Somalia’s Planning Ministry, the meeting was convened to discuss the UN’s collective results in 2023 and planning for the upcoming year.
The meeting brought together key officials from various government ministries and representatives from UN agencies, funds, and programs including; Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, Mohamud Beenebeene, and the UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General/Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. George Conway.
The ministry added that the platform was also aimed at reviewing achievements and progress by the UN in supporting Somalia’s national development priorities.
Participants, who also included several top government officials and representatives from the UN Result Groups discussed strategic priorities and the framework’s impact on national development.
Further, they deliberated on the collective achievements and progress made in 2023, emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration between the Somali government and the UN in achieving the set goals.
Minister Beenebeene while addressing the forum underscored the importance of continued efforts with the United Nations to align with Somalia’s national development strategies and stressed the need for focused planning to ensure that the upcoming year’s goals are met effectively.
Conway on his part emphasized the UN’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development agenda. He outlined the UN’s strategic priorities and reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to working closely with the Somali government to address key development challenges and improve the well-being of the Somali people.
