Somalia, UN to Collaborate in Stabilizing Newly Liberated Areas
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Special Presidential Envoy for Stabilization and Civilian Protection, Omar Hashi on Wednesday met with Acting UN Special Representative James Swan to discuss Somalia’s efforts to stabilize areas recently liberated from Al-Shabaab control.
According to a government statement, the meeting which took place in Mogadishu discussed the federal government’s strategy to establish administrative, security and social services to the population living in the areas.
“Our focus is on providing immediate security and basic services to communities to ensure stability and support their transition to normalcy,” the statement reads in part.
The statement also adds that the two also emphasized the importance of a coordinated and comprehensive approach to stabilization efforts so as to ensure timely delivery of the services to the people.
The federal government stated that it is committed to establish local administrative structures in areas recently freed from militant control and ensure governance and order is restored.
