Somalia, UN Mission Deepen Joint Security Efforts Against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Minister of Defence Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and UN envoy James Swan met in Mogadishu on Tuesday to advance joint coordination on security and stabilization efforts, as the fight against al-Shabaab intensifies.
The meeting highlighted the growing cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and United Nations agencies, particularly in supporting operations led by the Somali National Army (SNA) in partnership with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Minister Fiqi and Swan stressed the importance of unified strategies in tackling threats posed by the al-Qaeda-linked insurgent group, praising recent offensives that brought together national forces, local fighters, and international allies.
“These joint efforts are critical in regaining control of key territories and securing communities affected by violence,” said a government official familiar with the discussions.
The two sides agreed to continue aligning operational plans and mobilizing resources to strengthen Somalia’s security sector and ensure long-term stability.
