Somalia, UN Step Up Coordination Amid Fears of Poor Deyr Rains

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s disaster management agency and the United Nations have agreed to intensify coordination on emergency preparedness amid warnings that below-average Deyr rains could worsen humanitarian conditions across the country.
Mahmoud Maalim Abdille, head of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), held talks in Mogadishu on Monday with UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Georg Conway during the agency’s monthly coordination meeting.
The discussions focused on contingency planning for drought and mobilizing resources through the newly established National Humanitarian Finance Fund, which is managed by the Somali government to boost support for vulnerable communities.
Both sides pledged to strengthen cooperation between the government and aid partners to ensure rapid and effective delivery of assistance to those most at risk.
