Somalia, UN to Enhance Collaboration to Boost Humanitarian Efforts
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia and the United Nations have agreed to intensify efforts aimed at addressing humanitarian challenges in the country and enhance collaboration between the two sides.
This was discussed early Monday during a meeting between Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mahamuud Moallim and senior United Nations officials led by George Conway, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident, and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia.
Both sides acknowledged the dire humanitarian situation in the country exacerbated by prolonged droughts, insecurity, and displacement and emphasized the importance of adopting a unified approach to ensure efficient delivery of assistance to those in need.
Further, the two sides agreed to convene a specialized conference on humanitarian assistance which will bring together key stakeholders including international partners, humanitarian organizations, and government representatives, to develop a cohesive strategy to address urgent needs.
Commissioner Moallim stated that the partnership between SoDMA and the UN will be instrumental in alleviating the suffering of millions of Somalis affected by the ongoing crisis.
The proposed conference is expected to focus on resource mobilization, improving logistics, and implementing sustainable solutions to Somalia’s humanitarian challenges.
