GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Republic of Somalia has unveiled its most ambitious long-term development agenda to date, unveiling the Centennial Vision 2060 (CV2060) – a strategic roadmap to transform the country into an upper-middle-income nation by the 100th anniversary of independence.

The vision, championed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, aims to position Somalia as a peaceful, prosperous, and resilient state rooted in inclusive governance and regional cooperation. At the launch event in Mogadishu, the President hailed the initiative as a symbol of a new era for Somalia, one defined by hope, unity, and determination.

“This vision reflects the will of the Somali people to build a nation that is strong, self-reliant, and respected in Africa and across the world,” President Mohamud said during his keynote speech.

Developed in collaboration with Somali experts and international partners, CV2060 sets out a phased path for structural transformation over the next 35 years. It aligns closely with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and global sustainable development frameworks, underscoring Somalia’s growing role on the regional and international stage.

At the heart of the plan are seven National Transformation Plans (NTPs), each spanning five years, with the first phase – NTP 1, already underway. The strategy prioritizes investment in infrastructure, education, energy, governance, and climate resilience, while fostering inclusive economic growth and innovation.

For many Somalis, CV2060 represents a milestone: the first comprehensive national plan that reflects both the country’s rich heritage and its future aspirations. It moves beyond recovery to renewal, embracing long-term planning as a national necessity, not a luxury.

Shared Framework

Officials say the vision provides a shared framework for all sectors of society, public institutions, private sector, youth, women, diaspora, and development partners, to work in unison for a common goal: a thriving Somalia.

“This is not just a government strategy. It’s a Somali vision,” said a senior official from the Ministry of Planning. “Every Somali, whether inside the country or abroad, has a role to play in building this future.”

The launch comes at a time of growing optimism in Somalia, with progress on debt relief, enhanced security reforms, and renewed diplomatic engagement across East Africa and the Horn. Analysts say CV2060 could also strengthen regional ties and economic corridors that benefit the wider East African bloc.

By setting its sights on the centenary of independence, Somalia is not only reflecting on a proud national legacy, but laying the foundation for a forward-looking future anchored in peace, prosperity, and sovereignty.
