GOOBJOOG NEWS | NEW YORK: Somalia has urged stronger international support to address internal displacement, saying millions face daily upheaval from conflict, droughts, floods and the impacts of climate change.

Speaking at a high-level roundtable on solutions to displacement during the United Nations General Assembly, Environment and Climate Change Minister Lt Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama said Somalia is embedding durable solutions in its National Development Plan and building resilience through institutions such as the National Disaster Management Agency.

He said tackling displacement must go beyond short-term aid, calling for sustained financing, global unity and political will. “Addressing displacement is both a humanitarian duty and a development strategy for stability and prosperity,” he said.

The government says its focus on climate resilience and long-term recovery will be central to stability and economic growth, as the country prepares its climate agenda ahead of COP30.
