Somalia, US to Deepen Security Cooperation, Bolster Counter-Terrorism Efforts

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and the United States of America have agreed to deepen security partnership with a particular emphasis on enhancing joint counter-terrorism efforts.

This was discussed Monday during a meeting between Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and General Michael E. Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in Mogadishu.

The two sides deliberated on ways to advance cooperation in addressing security challenges facing Somalia and he region and also expressed a strong commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership in combating terrorism and improve regional stability.

Their discussion also touched on ongoing and future initiatives aimed at bolstering Somalia’s security infrastructure and operational capabilities.

On his part, General Langley reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting Somalia in its efforts to counter extremist groups and ensure a safer environment for its citizens.

The meeting aims to foster greater coordination and effectiveness in counter-terrorism operations even as the Somalia government continues its offensive aimed at reclaiming areas under Al-shabaab control.
