GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Vietnam have opened a new chapter in economic cooperation following a high-level meeting in Mogadishu aimed at expanding investment in infrastructure and housing.

Somalia’s Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing, Dr. Ilmi Mohamud Nur, met on Monday with a Vietnamese delegation led by Nguyen Tuan Long, Director of the Global Link Center and Deputy Chairman of LKS Group, and Nguyen The Tuan, Chairman of Paloma Development and Investment JSC. Both are members of the Somalia–Vietnam Business Council, which promotes bilateral trade and investment ties.

Minister Nur, accompanied by Director General Farah Abdinur Ahmed, briefed the delegation on Somalia’s investment opportunities in key sectors including ports, airports, water management, and energy.

The Vietnamese side expressed interest in infrastructure projects, particularly road construction and intercity linkages seen as crucial to Somalia’s economic recovery and internal trade. They also showed readiness to invest in the government’s Affordable Housing project by introducing modern construction technologies and partnering with Somali firms.

Both sides agreed to deepen engagement, including plans for a reciprocal visit by Somali officials to Vietnam to advance cooperation in trade and development.

The talks underscore Somalia’s growing appeal to foreign investors and its push to rebuild essential infrastructure after years of conflict.
