Somalia Vows to Boost Arabic Language in Military Training, Education

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has pledged to expand the role of Arabic in Somalia’s education and military training, describing the language as central to the country’s cultural and religious identity.
Speaking at the close of a workshop on the future of Arabic in Somalia, organised in Mogadishu by the Arab League, Fiqi said Arabic provided a vital link between Somalia and the wider Arab and Islamic world.
The minister said his ministry would integrate Arabic into defence training programmes, update military curricula and strengthen cooperation with Arab states on capacity-building.
He thanked the Arab League for its support and promised to turn the workshop’s recommendations into practical measures that reinforce Somalia’s development and collective identity.
