Somalia welcomes Presidential nomination of US Ambassador to Somalia

The Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia welcomes the Presidential nomination of H.E Katherine Simonds Dhanani to be the first US Ambassador to Somalia since 1991. This is a testament to the ever expanding relationship between the two Governments and people.
The Governments of the United States of America and Somalia enjoy a cordial and multifaceted relationship including fruitful cooperation in the areas of security sector development, countering global terrorism and piracy and humanitarian and poverty-reduction. Both countries have historic links including people to people relations with a substantial Somali-American population residing in the US.
The Somali Government and its people will continue to be friends and reliable allies, and by further strengthening the diplomatic and official channels between both countries, will solidify these historic relations.
