#SomaliaElections2021: Madobe’s right hand man Ilyaas Gaboose elected first Senator in Jubbaland

GOOBJOOG NEWS|KISMAYO: Ilyas Badal Gaboose has been elected the first Senator in Somalia in the 2021 elections beating his only rival.

The Jubbaland parliament has just concluded voting for the first of the four senate seats up for grabs today. The seat was contested by  Ilyas Badal Gaboose, Mohamed Ahmed Sayiid. Sharmake Mohamed Abdi withdrew from the race.

Gaboose garnered 55 votes while Mohamed Sayiid got 17 votes. Gaboose was formerly an advisor of president Ahmed Madobe and served as Lower Juba commissioner during the reign of president Abdullahi Yusuf.
