Somalia’s Cabinet Approves 2025 Government Budget
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia’s cabinet Monday approved the government budget for the year 2025.
During an emergency meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, the budget passed by a majority vote and sets the total allocation at $1,342,476,311, marking a substantial increase from the previous year’s allocation of $1,079,315,783
This reflects a 24.4% rise, amounting to an additional $263,160,528 and underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing internal revenue generation, which is critical for the planned improvements in security, social services, and infrastructure development.
The increased budget is expected to be funded through enhanced tax collection, improved efficiency in public sector revenue generation, and international aid and grants.
The focus on internal revenue is particularly crucial as it aims to reduce dependency on external funding and foster a more self-sustaining economy.
In the budget, a significant portion has been earmarked for strengthening security measures, a critical area given the ongoing challenges posed by terrorist groups.
The allocation for social services will address essential sectors such as healthcare, education, and social welfare, aiming to improve the quality of life for Somali citizens.
Infrastructure development, another key area, will see investments in transportation, energy, and communication networks, which are vital for economic growth and stability.
During the sitting, the Council of Ministers also passed the draft law for the Somali Police Force, submitted by the Ministry of Internal Security, which is expected to provide a robust legal framework for the operations and governance of the police force, enhancing its effectiveness and accountability.
