Somalia’s Climate Change Efforts to Feature at the COP29 Conference
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAKU: Federal government of Somalia’s Environment and Climate change minister Khadija Makhzumi is leading a delegation attending the the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The conference, which runs from November 11 to 22, 2024, brings together nearly 200 countries to discuss climate finance, fossil fuel transition, and strategies to mitigate climate change.
Somalia is among nations that have faced adverse effects due to climate shocks, including recurring droughts and floods which have severely impacted livelihoods, exacerbated displacement, and increased inequality and insecurity.
The Somali delegation aims to secure international support and funding to develop climate change adaptation strategies and build resilience in Somalia.
The Environment Minster and his delegation are expected to use the platform to evant engage relevant stakeholders and representatives to discuss these pressing issues.
Minister Makhzumi highlighted the importance of international cooperation and securing crucial climate funding to address the country’s challenges.
The delegation hopes to take advantage of the opportunities at COP29 to gain international support for its plans to tackle climate change and present its efforts to address the climate challenges affecting the country.
