Somalia’s Foreign Minister Warns Israel Move Risks Regional Stability
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, has issued a strong response to Israel’s declaration recognizing Somalia’s northern regions, describing the move as unlawful, hostile, and a direct challenge to the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The minister said Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity are inseparable principles anchored in the country’s Constitution, parliamentary resolutions, and the official position of the President. He stressed that no external actor has the authority to alter Somalia’s internationally recognized borders.
Abdisalam warned that the decision carries wider security implications beyond Somalia, noting that it risks destabilizing the Red Sea corridor, the Gulf of Aden, and the broader Middle East. He cautioned that such actions could fuel extremism and terrorism, undermining regional and global stability.
The Foreign Minister said Somalia has formally demanded that Israel reverse its decision and reaffirmed that the federal government is prepared to take appropriate diplomatic measures to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and unity.
At the same time, he underlined that dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia and Somaliland will continue, emphasizing that any resolution to outstanding issues must be peaceful, Somali-led, and free from external interference.
The statement reinforces Mogadishu’s position that internal political questions should be resolved through dialogue and consensus, rather than unilateral actions by foreign states.
