Somalia’s Parliament to Resume As Lawmakers Prepare To Tackle Key National Issues
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU:Somalia’s Federal Parliament will reconvene on Aug. 1 for the eighth session of its 11th term, with lawmakers expected to debate key legislation, electoral reforms and security issues amid a pivotal period in the country’s political transition.
The leadership of both the House of the People and the Upper House announced that the new parliamentary session will officially open on Aug. 1 and called on all members to attend the opening sitting.
Parliament is expected to consider a range of pending bills and other legislative business, while also deliberating on electoral matters, national security and broader governance issues, according to the parliamentary leadership.
The new session comes as Somalia advances a series of political and institutional reforms, including efforts to overhaul the country’s electoral framework ahead of future polls. Parliament has also been considering legislation aimed at strengthening public institutions, improving economic governance and supporting the government’s reform agenda.
Lawmakers are also expected to review security developments as Somali forces continue operations against the militant group Al-Shabaab, alongside discussions on federal-state relations and other issues affecting the country’s political landscape.
The eighth session opens at a time when Somalia is seeking to maintain momentum on constitutional reforms, state-building efforts and economic recovery, while addressing persistent security challenges and preparing for the next phase of its political transition.
