Somaliland Expresses Optimism About The Resumption Of Somalia-Somaliland Talks
Foreign Minister of proclaimed republic of Somaliland, Mohamed Yonis expressed hope over the resumption of the talks between Somaliland and the Federal Government of Somalia.
Speaking to Reuters, while in Abijan, the capital city of Cote d’Ivoire, Bihi said that the talks between Somalia and Somaliland which collapsed earlier, are expected to resume soon as both sides are carrying out efforts to iron out their differences.
Somaliland administration appears to have concern over the sincerity and neutralism of Turkey Government which has good relationship with Somali federal government.
“At the beginning of the talks, we had Norway, United Kingdom European Union as observers and the negotiation was running smoothly as there was mutual understanding therefore we urge those countries to attend the negotiation once again” he called.
On the other hand, minister said that Somaliland was in talks with France’s Bollore, the Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company and Dubai’s DP World.
“Those are the three major port management companies that are interested in developing the port. We have been discussing with all of them,” he told Reuters on the sidelines of an African Development Bank meeting in Ivory Coast.
“We have not made up our minds. We’re looking at all options,” he added.
Yonis said the port was expected to become a major transit hub for goods entering and leaving the Horn of Africa and particularly Somaliland’s landlocked but economically thriving neighbour Ethiopia.
