Somaliland Federal MPs and Politicians to Boycott Federal Elections
Political Heavy weights from Somaliland, including Deputy prime Mohmmed Omar, Information Minister Abdihayer Mariye, former Somali foreign minister Fowzia Haji Adan, and Federal MPs from Somaliland declared boycott in this year’s Somali Federal elections.
In Press conference held in Mogadishu on Sunday, the politicians and MPs said, they won’t participate Federal elections, unless Upper-house seats distribution is reviewed.
MP Muse Awal Hiis blamed National Leadership Forum for disregarding the constitutional provision “ the point is that as according to the constitution, the Upperhouse seats should be distributed equally to 18 regions of Somalia, but NLF favored regions against others” said MP, Hiis.
Indirect Electoral Team has officially asked NLF to address Somaliland and Hiraan/Middle Shebble concerns as other Federal states submit Upperhouse candidates list to the Team.
National Leadership Forum meeting is expected to kick off tomorrow in Mogadishu and address Hiiran/middle shebble and Somaliland issues, among other things.
