Somaliland forces take over Boocame district previously under Puntland’s jurisdiction
GOOBJOOG NEWS|SOOL: Reports from the district of Sool in Somalia’s breakaway region, Somaliland, say that its forces have this morning occupied the area of Boocame, after Puntland State Police forces withdrew from the district.
Residents reported seeing several Somaliland army officers arriving in military vehicles, who immediately occupied Boocame police station and other centres.
The takeover of Boocame by Somaliland Forces was in response to a request from the local community, which said it had faced insecurity issues for the past few months, according to some sources from the region. However, the claim could not be independently verified as the Somaliland and Puntland authorities are yet to issue a statement on the same.
Boocame in the Sool region, which is 60 km from Garowe, is controlled by the Puntland administration and is one of the districts marked by the Said Deni administration where local government elections would be held.
