Somaliland offers amnesty to politicians supporting Federal Government
The breakaway region of Somaliland has offered an amnesty to people from northern Somalia working with the Federal government of Somalia to rescind their decisions and support Somaliland’s call for independence from Somaliland.
Speaking to the reporters in Hargeisa, Somaliland’s information minister, Osman Abdullahi Sahardid said that his government is ready to welcome to those who are ”willing” to come back to support Somaliland’s secession.
“Our doors remain open for those willing support to dismemberment of Somalia, Somaliland is ready to withstand all its citizens who ready to fight the recognition of Somaliland,” said Sahardid,
The development comes days after Some leaders from Somaliland complained of unfair treatment in the distribution of the Upper House seats.
Abdihashi Abdullahi an MP from Somaliland told the media Tuesday the allocation of two seats in the name of Somaliland was a ploy to cover an offer for Puntland.
Several people hailing from Somaliland are holding positions in the UN backed Somali government, among them are the deputy prime minister, Mohamed Omar Arte and Somali foreign minister, Abdisalam Hadliye.
Meanwhile Ali Khalif Galaydh the leader of the self declared region of Khatumo state which sits between Somaliland and Puntland is alleged have been promised a senior government in Somaliland should he drop his bid to advance the course for Khatumo. This comes days Galaydh told Goobjoog News he was in negotiations with Somaliland.
Somaliland which had declared a unilateral independence from the rest of Somalia in 1991 has been seeking an international recognition; however, no country has so far recognized it as an independent state.
