Somaliland Orders Private Hospitals to Provide Free Treatment for Wounded Soldiers

GOOBJOOG NEWS | HARGEISA: The Somaliland regional government has directed all private hospitals to offer free medical treatment to soldiers wounded in battle, following reports that a private hospital had refused to treat an injured soldier.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, authorities emphasized that soldiers injured while defending the nation must receive medical care with dignity and compassion.
“We have decided that all private hospitals must provide free services to wounded soldiers who come to their facilities after sustaining injuries while defending the nation. They should be received with care and compassion,” the ministry announced.
Additionally, the directive requires highly skilled doctors from private hospitals to assist in public hospitals during emergencies, particularly when specialized treatment is needed for critically injured soldiers.
The ministry also stressed the importance of patient confidentiality, instructing private healthcare providers to share medical information only with authorized entities.
Private hospitals facing challenges in implementing the directive have been advised to reach out to the Ministry of Health Development for guidance and support.
