Somaliland President Irro Heads to Qatar to Bolster Trade, Diplomatic Ties

GOOBJOOG NEWS|QATAR: Somaliland President Abdirahman Irro is today tracelling to Qatar where he is expected to meet senior Qatari officials and business leaders.

Sources said the visit follows an invitation from the leadership of Qatari in what is billed as an effort to bolster relations between the two governments.

Qatar has also played to host to several leaders from Somalia including the recent visit by Jubaland president Ahmed Madobe.

Qatar and the UAE have demonstrated increased influence in the Horn of Africa through political stance and investment. On Thursday, the UAE government handed over 300 housing units to the Somaliland government in Berbera.

The houses will be distributed to poor families in Berbera where the UAE also runs a 30-year port concession.
